Lions Roar Into 2026: Olympic Heights Dominates Monarch High in Statement Win
1/13/2026

BOCA RATON, FL — Olympic Heights opened the 2026 calendar year in spectacular fashion, shaking off a narrow loss to West Boca and a heartbreaking result against FAU with a commanding performance against Monarch High School. In a game defined by clinical second-half adjustments and relentless pressure, the Lions proved why they are a force to be reckoned with.

A First-Half Siege

From the opening whistle, the Lions "tilted the field." Playing with a clear sense of purpose and high-level confidence, Olympic Heights pinned Monarch in their own half for nearly the entire first 40 minutes. The ball movement was fluid and the communication was sharp, yet the scoreboard remained stubbornly blank. Despite creating several high-percentage scoring opportunities, a combination of narrow misses and shots directed straight at the Monarch keeper kept the game scoreless going into the break.

The Lightbulb Moment

The second half was a completely different story as the "lightbulb stayed on." The Lions finally solved the final third puzzle, and the floodgates opened.

  • 42nd Minute: The breakthrough came just two minutes after the restart. Chiara Sasso found Leah Gottlieb with a precision pass; Gottlieb didn't hesitate, firing a clinical shot through the goalkeeper’s legs to make it 1-0.

  • 56th Minute: After 14 minutes of sustained offensive pressure, the Lions struck again. Ava Vecchio executed a clever short corner to Sami Rodriguez, whose strike rattled off the crossbar and the back post before settling into the net.

  • The Surge: The momentum stayed firmly with the Lions. Chiara Sasso transitioned from playmaker to scorer, netting the third goal of the night thanks to a brilliant "double assist" from Sienna Higgott and Ava Vecchio.

  • The Finisher: To put the exclamation point on the evening, Victoria DaSilva found the back of the net off a perfectly placed corner kick, once again assisted by the duo of Higgott and Vecchio.

Defensive Masterclass

While the offense grabbed the headlines, the Olympic Heights defense was the backbone of the victory. Following the second water break, Monarch attempted to mount a comeback, but the Lions' back line remained "on point." They denied Monarch any clear-cut scoring opportunities, limiting their threats to a handful of corner kicks that were dealt with efficiently.  In the net Ava Finnerty and Evelyn Soroka-Quiroz both combined for the shutout.

Looking Ahead

By combining a high-possession style with a now-lethal finishing touch, Olympic Heights has set a high bar for the rest of the season. If they can maintain this level of "possession with purpose," 2026 promises to be a historic year for the program.
