Following a successful 19-5-1 season, Olympic Heights is kicking off the end-of-year sports honors with some exciting news. The first big announcement was junior Ava Vecchio being named the FACA (Florida Athletic Coaches Association) District 20, 6A Player of the Year. Vecchio capped off an outstanding season with 49 points, including 10 goals and a school-record 29 assists. As part of this honor, she automatically earns a nomination for the 2025 Florida Dairy Farmers Miss Soccer ballot, with FACA members set to vote next month. Ava is the third player under Coach Jim Cappello to receive this prestigious recognition.

Coach Cappello praised her ability to create opportunities for her teammates: "As much as I know Ava loves to score, she has an incredible eye for spotting the open player and setting them up perfectly. She could have had 15+ more assists if the shots weren’t saved or missed. Finding a forward who has the natural ability to score is one thing, but finding one who is selfless with her talents is very rare."

In addition to Ava’s well-deserved recognition, Coach Jim Cappello was also named FACA District 20, 6A Coach of the Year.
