Seven Lions Score in Victory
West Palm Beach: For the fourth consecutive season the Lions started off the season with a victory at the hands of Slam West Palm Beach. In the end seven different players scored goals and ten players recorded a point in a 10-0 victory.
The Lions started early, earning a corner kick in the first minute which lead to a penalty shot. Ava Vecchio calmly put the ball in the right hand corner for the first goal of the match. The second goal came a few minutes later when when Alexis Araya set up Rebecca Camara who fired home a shot from outside the box. Araya appeared to have scored her own goal on a high shot that fell just under the crossbar, but the keeper batted it down to Avi Solorzano's who touched it in. Solorzano assisted Camara on the fourth goal during a scramble in the box eleven minutes in. Following a nice passing play down the left wing, a beautiful header from Sienna Higgott completed a nice corner kick from Vecchio. Moments later, Brooke Liebman brought a ball down the left wing and set up a perfect pass to Vecchio in stride for a touch goal at the water break. Following the water break, Liebman scored her first varsity goal when she put home a pass from Leah Gottlieb. Another scramble deep in the six yard box gave Rachel Rothstein a goal assisted by Ainhoa Martino with 8 minutes remaining. Alma Geschwind would score the final two goals in the final three minutes with Camara and Vecchio each adding an assists. Evelyn Soroka-Quiroz and Ava Finnerty combined for the shutout in goal.
The Lions will face Somerset Canyons tomorrow.
